Best planted in the Spring, Caper bushes are great for LA gardens as they are well-suited to gravelly soil and have very low watering needs once established. The sprawling shrub acts more like ground cover and produces classic edible Caper berries which transform into beautiful fragrant white flowers with violet stamens. The flowers only last for a day, but if you let the bush spread freely, you're likely to see flowers all through the summer.
